Rain makes a good live wallpaper for a simple reason: its motion is small, even and endless. Nothing in it arrives or leaves, so the eye settles on it instead of following it, and a loop never shows its seam.
For a work setup, choose rain on a window or a city blurred behind wet glass. The drops become a fine texture behind your windows, and a dark picture keeps the menu bar and your icons easy to read. Skip the ones with lightning if a flash at the edge of your vision would pull you away.
For a gaming or streaming setup, where the desktop is on show between sessions, go the other way: a neon street shining with rain, a storm rolling over hills, colour that holds its own beside a lit keyboard.
