The ocean may be the oldest moving wallpaper there is: a surface that never stops and never repeats in a way you notice. Its steady rhythm is easy company through a long day, and it loops without a visible join.
For work, pick an even horizon and a slow swell. A horizon divides the screen in two, so keep your icons and windows over the half with less going on, usually the sky, and the picture stays calm around them. Pale scenes of blue water and white sand brighten a room by day; dark, moonlit ones are gentler on the eyes in the evening.
For play, the dramatic ones: bioluminescent surf, a wave about to break, a huge moon over violet water. They carry a room at night.
Seen from straight above, beaches and reefs turn into patterns of foam, sand and turquoise. They work as a quiet, almost abstract background, and look different every time a wave comes in.
