Seasill is a live wallpaper app for Mac and Windows. It comes with a catalogue of more than 76,000 moving wallpapers, searchable by what you mean, and plays your own videos, never limited or watermarked. Choose a view for each display, or let them change through the day.
Seasill is a live wallpaper app for Mac and Windows: a desktop that moves, quietly, behind your work.
It comes with Seasill’s own catalogue of more than 76,000 live wallpapers (landscapes, cities at night, rain, oceans, space), searchable by words or by meaning, with “more like this” for any wallpaper. Your own videos work too, never limited or watermarked.
Each display can have its own wallpaper, playlists change them on a timer or by the time of day, and Seasill can pause while windows cover the desktop. On the Mac it works through macOS’s own wallpaper system, beside Apple’s aerials; on Windows it can span one wallpaper across several displays and play on the lock screen.
Seasill is free to start. Seasill ($29 a year) and Seasill Pro ($59 a year, for three computers in any mix of Mac and Windows) remove the limits. It grew from Phosphene, an open-source Mac app by kageroumado.

- $0, with no time limit. One computer. One display plays live; the others hold a still. Catalogue wallpapers at up to 1080p with a small mark in a corner, five in the library at a time. Your own videos are never limited.
- Seasill
- $29 a year, one computer: every display live, full resolution, no mark, no limit on catalogue wallpapers.
- Seasill Pro
- $59 a year: the same, for three computers in any mix of Mac and Windows.

- A 7-day free trial of either paid plan, then yearly.

- Your own files
- mp4, mov and m4v; webm, mkv and avi too. On the Mac, pictures and GIFs become wallpapers as well.
- Privacy
- No behavioural tracking. The app contacts Seasill to check its licence and to load the catalogue.

- Seasill grew from Phosphene, a free, open-source (MIT) Mac app by kageroumado, whose native wallpaper extension is what lets Seasill appear on the Mac as a real wallpaper. Phosphene on GitHub.

The mark is one shape in one colour. The name is never part of it: set “Seasill” beside it, in your own type.

- White on a dark ground, black on a light one. Please don’t recolour it, or add a gradient, a shadow or a glow.
- Don’t redraw it or put the name inside it; set “Seasill” beside it in the type of your page.
- Leave clear space around it of at least half its height.
- The name is one word with one capital: Seasill, not SeaSill or Sea Sill.
